Looking for Love for The Holiday

Poor guy. John Smith is so desperate to find love this holiday season he's placed his personal ad on an Orlando billboard. It says: "Help John find love. If you tell him about a friend who turns out to be his long-term girlfriend, he'll pay you $1,000." The 41 year-old says, "I'm self-employed so I don't meet people at work. So I thought, If I'm going to do this, I'm doing to do it full-bore. In the last couple of days, I've heard from women who said, 'You aren't my type, but I really admire what you're trying to do.' I've also heard from women who said, 'I went out with you and you haven't gotten any better looking!' When you do something like this, you can't be easily offended." John's web site tells more - CLICK HERE for it.

Santa Makes Me Laugh

I think this is Larry the Cable Guy's Cousins...

The Sky is Falling! Uh...make that The Trees Are Falling

Maybe not the sky, but the tress are falling - and just in time for Christmas!!!
Uwe Klein, of Berlin, Germany, was recently driving home when a giant Christmas tree fell on his Volkswagen Golf. The 45-year-old cut the tree down to size and drove it home. He says, "I thought I might as well at least get something out of it. It's just as well it happened at the right time of year."

Lit Up for Christmas...60,000 Lights Worth...

John and Danielle Copeland's Palm City, Florida home is adorned with 60,000 holiday lights. She says they buy their lights the day after Christmas. "We work on it during the summer, so it can take 10, 20 hours a song and that's only three minutes. So I think we have about six or seven songs this year."

Letters to Santa

The post office may be doing letters, but the American Red Cross Rappahannock Chapter has a twist on their program - and it makes Christmas special for some child that might not have had a Christmas. Now more than ever they need YOUR help.

Letters to Santa, now celebrating its 21st year, is a holiday assistance program sponsored by the Rappahannock Area Chapter. Last year 765 local children received new toys and a winter coat through the program. Children one to twelve years of age, with their parents’ help, submit applications and letters via Social Services and Head Start. Then the letters are placed in binders ready for community members to choose a child to sponsor for the holidays.

We hope you will join the team of great Santas! If you would like to be a sponsor, please visit one of our adoption sites. Can’t come in? Just give us a call at (540) 735-0500.

Want a Great Turkey?

The answer; Dry Bringing Technique!
This technique is nothing more than salting turkey and letting it sit for several days. It's based it on Judy Rodgers' recipe that's famous with the gobbler cookers.
You know how turkey sometimes can be dry and bland...after dry-bringing, the meat is moist and flavorful. Even better, the texture of the meat stays firm, with none of the sogginess that can happen from added moisture.

CLICK HERE NOW for the details!!!

Or watch the video...

Let us know how it turns out! Happy Turkey!!!

Bad Driving is in Your DNA?

Don't bother yelling, cussing at that bad driver, he can't help it -- it's in his genes! The study found that people with a particular gene variant performed more than 20 percent worse on a driving test than people with a different DNA sequence. That may explain why there are so many bad drivers out there because about 30% of Americans have the variant. Ironically, the research team had not set out to discover insights into driving but chose the driving test because it uses common skills. Researchers said they'd love to do new research and find out how many people involved in car crashes have the gene variant. (Reuters)

What To Do With No Mask for a Burglary???

These geniuses figured this would work out well. They must have thought..."No mask, no hood, let's color our faces with marker, ya that's gotta work". As you can see by the mug shots they did a bad job of staying within the lines, and didn't fill in the spaces. There parents must be proud!!!

Some Teachers Go That Extra Mile...

Teachers teach, but some teachers go further for students so they can retain more, and advance in their education. Those teachers that really care about their students and their progress don't always have the materials they need in order to accommodate the many levels of kids in their classrooms, so they take it out of their own pockets. Sometimes as much as $1,000 a year. It's getting tougher and tougher for them to keep up with the economy so that's where you come in.
The program of ADOPT-A-CLASSROOM is a non- profit organization that offers an easy accountable way for you to donate funds to a teacher/school and make a difference for our local kids. CLICK HERE NOW for more information and how YOU can take part.
All donations are tax-deductible and 100% of the donation goes to the teacher/school

Moore Cash - 2nd Place BUT - There's a Catch...

The State Fair of Virginia had a Celebrity Cook Off, and Jessica and I were invited to take part.
3 teams faced off in a "Iron Chef" style competition; ingredients were a secret and we only had 30 minuets to prepare a full meal AND make it look and taste good. Little did we know we'd be up against professionals that have been on Paula Dean's show (www.debishawcross.com), and authors of cook books. WTH?
Even though Jessica thinks cooking is pushing buttons on the microwave, we finished second!!! Not to shabby for a couple of radio personality's. Here are some of the pics from the event....

A RADIO FIRST...and last ...

The State Fair of Virginia opens today (09/24/09), and to commemorate it - I talked Jay Lugar and Curry Roberts into helping me surprise Jessica with a BIG surprise - in studio. After much begging, they agreed to bring in a 1500 lb. Bull! This has to be a RADIO FIRST - right here in our WFLS studios!!! This pic (to left) was taken moments before going on live.
What happened next was unexpected (you can listen below). Bruster (the bull) is normally very docile. We think that the flash may have been the catalyst to what agitated Bruster into what was later classified as "someone threw a fit in the studio" episode. After a 15 minute break and a little pickup - everything was like new again (see "someone threw a fit in the studio" incident pic below). *No people or animals were injured during the visit to the WFLS studios.

Eat, Drink, and Help Out a Local Boy Making a Comeback

Jonathan Colson is the 11-year old little boy from Spotsylvania County, Virginia that is the survivor of a lightning strike that occurred during a delay of game at his Little League baseball game at Lee Hill Park on June 3, 2009. Since that time, Jonathan has made great progress and the doctors continue to state that it is a miracle that he is alive. As we all are thankful for his recovery, it came at a cost - some of which aren't covered by insurance. There will be a fund-raiser to help defer the cost of his medical expenses on September 26th from 7-10 a.m. at the Applebee’s in Central Park.

Burry Me in My Car with Cash and Guns!

A 90-year-old North Carolina man had some strange "last requests" when he passed away. One was that he be buried in his car - a 1973 Chevy Catalina. The other request was to be buried with his hunting guns in the trunk, and a $100 bill in his pocket.

Believe it or not - he got his wish.

"This is what Mr. Holloway wanted," said the pastor conducting the graveside service. "Amen" responded the attendees.

Happy 09-09-09 ! It's a Rare Palindromic Moment

09-09-09
Where day/month/year are all the same is called a Palindrome - a word or phrase that reads the same backward as forward. One of the most amazing examples of a Palindrome is a 543-word palindrome was created in 1984 by Dan Hoey with help of a computer program he wrote. CLICK HERE NOW to see it (scroll down half way on page) How many can you come up with???
09-09-09...
Palindromic dates are also rare and only happen 12 times a century for each number between 1 and 12.
Palindromic dates are of interest to recreational mathematicians and numerologists, and sometimes generate comment in the general media.[6] Whether or not a date is palindromic depends on the style in which it is written. For example, in the dd/mm/yyyy style, the 20th of February in 2002 (20-02-2002) was palindromic.
Also, the last palindromic date was November 30, 2003 (30/11/03). The next one will be on January 1, 2010 (01/1/10.)
Can you list them?

She's Not Useless Anymore!

Lee Redmond recently lost her 34 inch fingernails in a car wreck. The 68 year-old Guinness World Record holder says she has no plans to regrow them. "Losing my fingernails has been the most dramatic thing that's happened in my life. The thing that bothered me with losing the fingernails was that it becomes your identity and I felt like I'd lost part of that. People ask if I'm going to grow them again and I say, no, it was a one time thing. It took me 30 years to grow them and to get them to that length and they became the world record, and I probably won't live for 30 more years."
Send your donations of overgrown fingernails to: Redmond Nail Drive, POB 555, Utah.

LeAnn Rimes Calls it Quits on Her Web Site

LeAnn Rimes and her husband are getting divorced, and she put it on her web site - Rimes wrote: "After much thoughtful mutual consideration, Deane and I have agreed to move forward with dissolving our marriage." Rimes and backup dancer Dean Sheremet were married in February 2002. Tabloid reports have linked Rimes with actor Eddie Cibrian, her co-star in the TV movie "Northern Lights." Cibrian filed for divorce from his wife of eight years, Brandi, last week...hmm I wonder why. Naughty girl, divorce first, new relationship second. She must have missed that class.

Brooks in Vegas???

Garth Brooks in Las Vegas? Yep...or so we think. Here's what Extra has to say about it...
"Sources tell "Extra" that country legend Garth Brooks is working out a deal to perform at the Encore Hotel and Casino.

Brooks would be performing in the Encore Theater for 16 weeks beginning this October, where Danny Gans performed his Las Vegas show".

Jessica Thins the Herd...

Friday morning Jessica hit another deer on her way to work. She was OK, but as you can see her car isn't. The deer didn't make it either...even after repeated attempts at mouth to snout CPR Jessica couldn't revive it. According to statistics, auto insurer State Farm said that drivers in Pennsylvania are #1 on the list when it comes to deer collisions than any other state between July 1, 2004 and June 30, 2005. Virginia is #7 on the list.

It's also estimated that 1.5 million vehicles collide with deer every year, resulting in 150 motorists deaths and $1.1 billion in vehicle damages.

This makes 2 deer in 2 1/4 years for Jessica! I think she's trying to change the statistics. Did She save any for us? Nope - dang!

Don't Be Hate'n Mondays

Here's a song for you to look at the positive side of Mondays...

Move It! ...with Your Mind

A revolutionary new video game is giving kids the power to move things with their mind.
NeuroSky is a company that has developed video games and headsets that force players to use their mind in order to move objects in the game.
For their first-person shooter game Judecca, users battle demons that pop up as soon as their brain begins to fully concentrate.
Certain changes in their brain cause certain things to happen in the game.
Spokesperson Tansy Brooke explains, “All of a sudden you’ll see demons attacking you. You have to stay concentrated to see them and also to be able to fight back.”
Brooke likens the video game experience to having telekinesis and says, “Who hasn’t ever wanted to move things with their mind?”
Those who use it for the first time are generally taken aback by the experience, which Brooke calls “eery and exciting.”
She adds, “It’s so weird at first, you have to do it to believe it.”
