Some Teachers Go That Extra Mile...

Teachers teach, but some teachers go further for students so they can retain more, and advance in their education. Those teachers that really care about their students and their progress don't always have the materials they need in order to accommodate the many levels of kids in their classrooms, so they take it out of their own pockets. Sometimes as much as $1,000 a year. It's getting tougher and tougher for them to keep up with the economy so that's where you come in.
The program of ADOPT-A-CLASSROOM is a non- profit organization that offers an easy accountable way for you to donate funds to a teacher/school and make a difference for our local kids. CLICK HERE NOW for more information and how YOU can take part.
All donations are tax-deductible and 100% of the donation goes to the teacher/school
Invest in our future. The kids of today are our tomorrow!

Moore Cash - 2nd Place BUT - There's a Catch...

The State Fair of Virginia had a Celebrity Cook Off, and Jessica and I were invited to take part.
3 teams faced off in a "Iron Chef" style competition; ingredients were a secret and we only had 30 minuets to prepare a full meal AND make it look and taste good. Little did we know we'd be up against professionals that have been on Paula Dean's show (www.debishawcross.com), and authors of cook books. WTH?
Even though Jessica thinks cooking is pushing buttons on the microwave, we finished second!!! Not to shabby for a couple of radio personality's. Here are some of the pics from the event....

A RADIO FIRST...and last ...

The State Fair of Virginia opens today (09/24/09), and to commemorate it - I talked Jay Lugar and Curry Roberts into helping me surprise Jessica with a BIG surprise - in studio. After much begging, they agreed to bring in a 1500 lb. Bull! This has to be a RADIO FIRST - right here in our WFLS studios!!! This pic (to left) was taken moments before going on live.
What happened next was unexpected (you can listen below). Bruster (the bull) is normally very docile. We think that the flash may have been the catalyst to what agitated Bruster into what was later classified as "someone threw a fit in the studio" episode. After a 15 minute break and a little pickup - everything was like new again (see "someone threw a fit in the studio" incident pic below). *No people or animals were injured during the visit to the WFLS studios.

Bad Photoshop? OR Kid with No Torso...

Brad Paisley's family was on the cover of People for September (pic above) - BUT not all the family was there for the shoot. They tried to photo shop his son in at the last minute which didn't work out so well.
The kids body is only half there and his feet are not matching, PLUS there are two other mistakes, can you find them?
Good luck!

Eat, Drink, and Help Out a Local Boy Making a Comeback

Jonathan Colson is the 11-year old little boy from Spotsylvania County, Virginia that is the survivor of a lightning strike that occurred during a delay of game at his Little League baseball game at Lee Hill Park on June 3, 2009. Since that time, Jonathan has made great progress and the doctors continue to state that it is a miracle that he is alive. As we all are thankful for his recovery, it came at a cost - some of which aren't covered by insurance. There will be a fund-raiser to help defer the cost of his medical expenses on September 26th from 7-10 a.m. at the Applebee’s in Central Park.
For more info on Jonathan and his story, progress, and more CLICK HERE NOW.

Naked on a Motocycle...is There Any Other Way to Ride?

This is the actual police footage of the incident. You can hear the officer asking the guy why he's naked. His reply "I don't know". The officer then says "do you have a license with you?" which is funny because, where's he going to put it??? AND would you want to hold it after he retrieved it?

Burry Me in My Car with Cash and Guns!

A 90-year-old North Carolina man had some strange "last requests" when he passed away. One was that he be buried in his car - a 1973 Chevy Catalina. The other request was to be buried with his hunting guns in the trunk, and a $100 bill in his pocket.

Believe it or not - he got his wish.

"This is what Mr. Holloway wanted," said the pastor conducting the graveside service. "Amen" responded the attendees.

$1,000 If You Find My Dog...NOT!

This is a bummer. Someone put up a reward that if they're dog was found they'd pay $1,000 to the person bringing little Wilfred, the once-missing Chihuahua.
So, someone finds him and the reward is the owner NOT paying up. READ MORE HERE.

So if there's been a funny, embarrassing, or OMG pic in your past and you can laugh at it now - send it to us! gmoore@wfls.com We all know that a pic is worth a thousand words. Maybe yours will be worth a thousand laughs...spread the laughter, it's catchy!

Happy 09-09-09 ! It's a Rare Palindromic Moment

09-09-09
Where day/month/year are all the same is called a Palindrome - a word or phrase that reads the same backward as forward. One of the most amazing examples of a Palindrome is a 543-word palindrome was created in 1984 by Dan Hoey with help of a computer program he wrote. CLICK HERE NOW to see it (scroll down half way on page) How many can you come up with???
09-09-09...
Palindromic dates are also rare and only happen 12 times a century for each number between 1 and 12.
Palindromic dates are of interest to recreational mathematicians and numerologists, and sometimes generate comment in the general media.[6] Whether or not a date is palindromic depends on the style in which it is written. For example, in the dd/mm/yyyy style, the 20th of February in 2002 (20-02-2002) was palindromic.
Also, the last palindromic date was November 30, 2003 (30/11/03). The next one will be on January 1, 2010 (01/1/10.)
Can you list them?

She's Not Useless Anymore!

Lee Redmond recently lost her 34 inch fingernails in a car wreck. The 68 year-old Guinness World Record holder says she has no plans to regrow them. "Losing my fingernails has been the most dramatic thing that's happened in my life. The thing that bothered me with losing the fingernails was that it becomes your identity and I felt like I'd lost part of that. People ask if I'm going to grow them again and I say, no, it was a one time thing. It took me 30 years to grow them and to get them to that length and they became the world record, and I probably won't live for 30 more years."
Send your donations of overgrown fingernails to: Redmond Nail Drive, POB 555, Utah.

LeAnn Rimes Calls it Quits on Her Web Site

LeAnn Rimes and her husband are getting divorced, and she put it on her web site - Rimes wrote: "After much thoughtful mutual consideration, Deane and I have agreed to move forward with dissolving our marriage." Rimes and backup dancer Dean Sheremet were married in February 2002. Tabloid reports have linked Rimes with actor Eddie Cibrian, her co-star in the TV movie "Northern Lights." Cibrian filed for divorce from his wife of eight years, Brandi, last week...hmm I wonder why. Naughty girl, divorce first, new relationship second. She must have missed that class.
